I'd say it's a 5, if that. It does get bonus points for introducing mental illness and body image, but doesn't do nearly enough with it. e.g. I've read up to chapter 58 (58 was a bit of a whammy chapter) and like 25 chapters ago a character develops
bulimia , and this still hasn't been raised again. Similar with depression and the issue of overmedication without psychotherapy.
It kind of feels like the story doens't know what it wants to be.
If it want to be a makeup tutorial, then it should commit. A romance? Then commit. A commentary on superficiality? Commit. A commentary on mental illnesses? Commit...A commentary on the entertainment industry? You get the idea..
EDIT: Ok I just skipped ahead to the
domestic abuse story which is about chapter 150-159 and it's pretty well done. Recommended to read those chapters, especially if you're struggling with such a situation yourself. One BIG concern though is that the sufferer is left to return 'home' on two occasions where she isn't safe. Don't do that.
The resolution of another plot point in 163 was also done really well. Even though it was painful...Ok I'm bumping the rating up by one.

As everyone said, the art is great, the plot was suppose to be good. Key word being was. If you said that this is good then it’s either your first few manhwas you’re reading or you’re just into the ugly girl becomes pretty trope. When I first read this in 2019, I anticipated the future chapters. I always wonder how the ending will be like and if the MC realises that she is worthy to be loved, ugly or not. But it just gets bad and more bad after season one.
Art:10/10
Plot: - /10
Characters: 1/10
There’s no message. Characters just disappear into the oblivion. Like there are so many characters just seem like fodder to make MC look super popular because she is pretty. But the most annoying part is when the author decided to make the 2nd male lead date the MC. It was kinda unexpected for me but nevertheless I was happy that happened. Then sh*t happens. In the end they broke up. If that wasn’t bad enough 2nd male lead just had to see male lead no.1 with his ex girlfriend which he had some feelings for at his best friend’s urn. As much as I want to be happy for the main couple, what the 2nd male lead just leaves me so sad. MC isn’t that all great either. Sure you’ve been bullied because you’re ugly but why are you judging others for how they look and the fact that they use filter for their photos? Like huh? What?
Just don’t waste your time reading this and put yourself in this emotional rollercoaster. If you want a story with a similar premise (that actually has a message) read The Makeup Remover by Lee Yeon
this was good at the beginning and showed some very promising ideas, but i don't see any real direction being taken here anymore. i personally don't enjoy how the second male lead was treated either. female lead is really toxic with how she thinks so superficially about others and don't find her tolerable enough to even read this anymore. i stopped around when she started doubting 2nd lead and their relationship. he was really sweet with her and it made me uncomfortable to see her still be so superficial with him when he seemed to be more down to earth with her regarding a lot of things. the main male lead had a good story as well and that would've had just as good of a story with her should the author have not tried to make this drag out more, but instead it's just morphed into a shoddy love triangle trope where i don't want anyone to end up with her.
the series is way too long now. once it nears over 50 chapters, we should be getting real growth and there isn't anything to point towards that at any point of the series. it's a shame, because i think this could've already had two good endings and the art is very nice.
i don't recommend this and it's a shame to feel this way about the story.
Honestly I like this webtoon. The female lead actually has active family (besides the dad who will appear way later lol) and Jugyeong is actually representing quite the struggles some people go through. I heard a lot of things about Korean culture, be it by friends or by watching interviews and documentaries, even KDrama doesn't hide the toxicity of beauty but also about the idol industry. I have seen a lot of western comments blaming the female or/and author because one ship was broken due of Kpop idols not being allowed to have relationships or they got angry cause Jugyeong was obessed with beauty and dropped her hobbies and tastes for society's expectations not thinking about how this is actually happening to real people there rn at this moment. Also readers want this webtoon to end cause they got tired of it, you know if you don't like it just drop it. I find this webtoon fun. Change is slow, especially if trauma is involved and irl it needs years to get over your past and start anew. I find this webtoon very realistic, despite of Jugyeong's naivety she makes sense. She is what her environment made her and usually the reasons people claim to hate her is more of a cultural problem that you just cannot fix overnight, believe me some Kpop bands do try to change society by forcing the industry to respect them as human beings than treat them as puppies. You cannot expect Jugyeong to change if their whole society is judgemental.
When I read this story at the beginning of...2018? I liked it. It reminded me of Switch Girl. To everyone, she's always beautiful and perfect; at home, she's a dork. I liked it.
But after a while, it truly feels like the author is forcing her characters into what she originally imagined (MC and MML together) instead of accepting that it no longer worked. And the absolute torture of the 2nd Male Lead is what made me completely drop it.
It's one thing to have someone hurt cause everyone hurts after a break up; it's another to continually torture a character for whatever reason.
The art is beautiful. But the story was drawn out much too long and I don't think I can deal with a character being hurt over and over and over.
Sadly, this True Beauty has lost it's beauty

ok pretty consistently if you recognize that the MC is a very flawed character and don't expect her to only have good results
it's not light and entertaining at all IMO, tons of body image angst and bad choices being made
I really liked the beginning of this series. It looked promising. However, after Suho left the story took a turn to its worst. I tried so hard to continue, but I now finally dropped this after ~115 chapters. I just... can't continue with this crappy story. Too bad, because the art is pretty. 🙁
I’ve always seen this manhwa around but never got interested in it. It recently got adapted to a kdrama, so I decided to watch it. I also decided to read it, but I prefer the kdrama much more. They made the main girl and plot more likeable. The main girl is an idiot. I can’t stand stupid and naive protagonists. The comedy is there though.
it’s only good till season 1 tbh.
The MC has no character developments, her personality is trash. She judge people by their looks even though herself is ugly, girl please look in you mirror.
It’s only good untill Suho went to Japan. It gotten worse when she became the second ml’s girlfriend. She pushed Seojun into becoming an idol and then breakup with him because she’s scared of the spotlight? Honestly one of the worst.
It doesn’t have any good message.
in short this is about a girl who has low self esteem about her face and covered it with makeup, surrounded but handsome boys but......., judge people by their looks even though she herself is ugly. NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AT ALL.
If you want to read something about makeup and the message is to love yourself just the way you are then read “make up man”, don’t read this because this’ll made your self esteem and confidence and loving yourself decreased.
