I watch the anime when I was around 9 years old and I didn't know what ecchi was.I kept finding it odd how they were always ending up with nearly no clothes.it was good but it gave me scary nightmares so read at your own risk.want to re read it but the fear is to much.

In case you haven't noticed, only the artist does Hentai, the author is a novelist. Personally, I feel the story is solid enough to be engaging and interesting, the ecchi is only an added bonus. But like the other guy said, this is a manga aimed at guys that like ecchiness(might be why they chose a hentai artist to illustrate the author's story), not some ecchi-hating woman.

Okay, but not great, just a turn-on series.

Hentai mangaka suck at doing series that are useful for anything else than turn-ons, and this series is no exception. It's just a whole lot of girls prancing around and getting their clothes ripped off and stuff.

Inazuma is a good hentai artist and I like his work. I just wish he would have gave this series more of a plot. All you get in this series is blood, zombies, boobs, and vaginas.

I'm a ecchi/fanservice anime/manga fan, but this series just doesn't cut it for me.

The Zombie Manga

Basically, this series is no more and no less than a depiction of a zombie invasion in manga form. Throw in some ecchi and one of my favorite female manga characters of all time and you have a very solid zombie manga.

At first reading this it was a decent story and then it got me thinking what the hell would I do if such an event were to unfold and I ended up buying machetes and rations along with water....... the fear is unyielding.

Starts off good, then loses steam

Wasn't a fan initially of horror and gore, but the hype surrounding the anime made me check this out. Not bad at first... but it really gets old quickly. I wouldn't even classify it as "horror" any more; I'd say it's become more of an action manga where enemies happen to be zombies.

Character and plot progression has also slowed down considerably. Seriously, having to wait for 1 month (or is it 2?) for a 30-or-more-page chapter with little development can be a bummer. It's really getting annoying how s are wasted on gun talk or simply to have the characters look cool (seriously, an entire page of c.29 just to show off how they all look good in rain gear? XD). But yeah, that's a shounen manga for you (though I this being listed as seinen; thanks for the correction!).

I also find the ecchi to be inappropriate. Not that I don't like my ecchi (and I do!); it's just that HSotD manages to take it to ridiculous levels. I mean, turning a girl's chest into a machinegun firing platform? WHY? It really makes the entire ecchi part feel forced into the story. And yes, this translates to wasted s which could've been used for development.

Overall, it's not bad; I'm still reading this despite the fact that I was initially reluctant about it (felt the same with Death Note... then I dropped it. WAAAY before L you-know-what, in case you ask) I just don't think it deserves all the hype.

PS: I mentioned a while ago that HSotD loses its horror quickly, so if you want a real zombie psychological thriller I suggest I am a Hero.

This manga is a Don.

People can say whatever they want about how perverted it is, but this manga is banking money. What makes this a great manga is not just the art, but the genres that make up this manga. HOTD is riding on the shounen and ecchi genre which is booming so much right now. Not only that, zombies. Some of us are tired when it comes to monsters, we automatically go to vampires. The vampire genre is getting played out and this manga is a nice refresher to the monster/horror genre. Also, I believe the ecchiness provides this manga with a more interesting story with its short cuts of perversion and funny scenes. Yes, a straight and narrow survivor manga would still wet my whistle, but it would get boring after a while. The short breaks of comedy provide the characters to think that despite it being a zombie apocalypse, they are still human. This manga has many things to bring to the table.

Too cartoony

Too cartoony to take seriously as a zombie movie. Shaun of the Dead did well combining it with comedy and a good story but this isn't a comedy. Just a zombie horror with little horror, or tension, and the art is too pervy for the kind of atmosphere that belongs to a zombie apocolypse. The characters aren't immediately great either. And I guess doing school kids is different in the zombie genre but so typical of manga.

You know what, It's not okay. This is just getting fame cause its japanese and it's anime/manga and it's doing the zombie genre. While getting some audience due to the tits and ass. This is low, it's stupid, and it's not well done and I can't take it anymore. It sucks.

Just go read Biomeat instead.

Ecchi mixed with Zombies? A match made in heaven (or hell actually)
by Jandalman

I'm not a fan of horror but for some reason zombie apocalypse stuff just sucks me in. Now add in the fact that this is a manga (and I do love my manga) and it has ecchi (I do love my ecchi goodness) AND it's set in a zombie apocalypse and that equals one hell of a kickass series you just HAVE to read. The art style is great, characters are awesome, the fat gun otaku is basically a proxy of me! The story is excellent and why are you still reading this review when you should be reading Highschool of the Dead!?

EDIT: Holy shit this series has been on hiatus for over three years (that one bullshit chapter in May 2013 doesn't count). Rating is going down for that. Seriously there's no news whatsoever regarding the author's activities. Is he sick? Dead? Or just plain lazy?

EDIT 2: Well it turns out he is dead as of March 2017 from heart disease. An unfortunate event and one that I notice happens a lot to Japanese authors and mangakas. Ah well guess this series in done sadly.
