The story is good until ch 46. If you like

dark story with dark ending please read until 46 only, don't ever read the last chapter (ch 47). I regretted so much because i read till the last chapter. I can give 10/10 if there's no chapter 47.

Petty and undeservedly brooding

Angst isn't exactly my cup of tea but there are angsty works that I have enjoyed in the past so it's not like I can't handle it. The problem an author needs to get around so they don't seem like an edgy middle schooler in the midst of puberty is that your audience needs to feel the angst with you. You can't mope and moan without imparting on the audience why they, or the characters, should feel that way.

In this manga, though, even before the protagonist's gay special snowflake disease manifests itself, he's already a brooding C U Next Tuesday, and he doesn't change much afterwards, besides developing a flair for the melodramatic. Yes, I know he is a teenager, so in that respect, perhaps the author has painted here the most realistic character ever. But that doesn't make for an interesting or compelling read. Save your time, unless you are currently in the process of painting your nails black and cutting holes in your jeans as you read this review, in which case, bon appetit!

Chizuna steals the show

It is dark and bittersweet, with heavy implication of a taboo ralationship which seem to be the cornerstone of every good vampire story (no, I don't count Twilight here, given the so-called 'vampire' doesn't even need blood...). And yes, Kazuna is the main character here but it is Chizuna who makes this manga so interesting. In fact, it is so much better when the focus is shifted to Chizuna's fragile health. Like other comments, I don't like the ending that much. I think it would have been a good ending had the author spent a couple more chapters to build it up, and altered some previous details so that it would make more sense. It is not bad though, I just feel that it is a bit rushed and not entirely logical with the rest of the manga.

Fascinating

There are a lot of complaints about the ending and a few about the pacing. Personally, I found the pacing perfect for the type of story it is and the ending good, if somewhat incomplete. If the penultimate chapter had been the end, it would have been uncomfortable (rather than tragic) and changed the focus of the story. Overall, it has a great plot, wonderful art, and a rather unusual premise.

The story revolves around the psychological effects of a mental illness with very strong psychosomatic symptoms (it's not true vampirism). I found the story to be wonderful in ninth grade, and years later it has lost none of its impact in rereading. A word of warning: if you're looking for a story which focuses on romance or has a relatively quick pace then your looking in the wrong place and you'll probably enjoy it less.

Too long-winded

Read this since I liked Hatsukanezumi no Jikan. The art is just as pretty, but the plot didn't capture me as did the former.. it was a pretty damn original vampire story, but I felt the the plot was way too drawn-out. This IS one of the mangaka's first works, though, so I guess that could be an explanation.
If you're patient and like the genre, you might like this one a lot.

two endings

yes, thats what i want to believe with this manga. one with depressive ending and one with hopeful ending. that way i wont feel cheated.

on the whole i like this manga. it is sombre, dark, and slow but the atmosphere feel right. the characters may be depressive but they act like real humans. well, i do like happy go lucky type because i read manga to get out of the reality of real humans, but occasionally reading about characters that act realistically is good too.

i wont recommend this to just anyone. as long as you okay with slow pacing, depressing monologue and heavy incestuous tones, you may read this. if not, dont bother.

fatal last chapter

Nice story. We can felt deep emotions within the story between Kazuna and Chizuna. So the artwork, really nice in drawing the character's feeling and conditions.

IMHO, I really really really DISAPPOINTED with the last chapter. The last chapter made me feel so sorry. I agree with 狂気 , "I really wish the last chapter was never made", and with zero-chan, "Lament of the Lamb would have been perfect with only 46 chapters". IMO, one chapter to turned all down, and more fatal, LAST chapter T___T So because the last chapter I can't give 10 T___T

This is one of those mangas that the talk of life and death is the main theme......ALOT of talking which makes it dark and depressing. The only gripe I would point out to myself is that the characters never really seem all that real (in a manga sense) and are just mixed up of their tragedy and feeling sorry for themselves or each other.

Well....not a bad read really .
