I love Akino-senseis works. Elixir is one of her best works. It
s beautiful, full of historical references, Lorenzo is really likeable character and every chapter has some moral lesson to teach. I like the setting - Europe, Italy, Turkey, Cyprus... those are contries close to my own and easy to relate to.
Its really fascinating and I recommend it wholeheartly!
As whitespade said, this is one great series, and it deserves more than one comment. The historical aspects are very interesting and eclectic, and it throws in some nice(?) supernatural elements and... some general messed upness in most chapters. The art may not seem up your alley at first glance, but it is actually really great in my opinion. It's a very episodic series, and my only real real complaint so far is there is a seemingly important plot piece in a very early chapter, but hardly anything has been mentioned about it after that chapter. The chapters jump around in time a bit, and it looks like it might eventually head in that direction (as of chapter 17), so I guess it's not that big of a deal. Otherwise, this is a suberb story and I am enjoying Lorenzo's adventures very much. Give it a try! I highly reccomend it!
i have never, in all my time using baka-updates, have posted a review until i completed the manga or at least read about 20chapters. but this manga is too incredible and too beautiful for me that i have to persuade anybody that somehow come across this review to read it. i am unable to convey my deepest love to this manga clearly due to my limited vocabulary, but i assure everyone of you that you will not regret reading this. please, do so.
