Description

One of the Worst ending i had ever read

This ends with the worst ending even i really liked the story and romance in this manga...but author axed this with a worst end atleast he could had made 1-2 chapters with good end.....this is the worst manga i ever read and regretting it so much.

Disappointing but beautiful ending, especially if read in a different light

The manga starts off as a romcom, but develops into a coming of age.

The ending of this manga is highly controversial. It lets the reader down and is not the typical merry ending. In fact the ending is extremely disappointing (especially if read as a romcom), but probably intentionally so to achieve the mangaka's wanted effect. Many people complain about the mangaka letting down the fans and simply criticise him for not knowing how to end a story. But if the mangaka ends the manga in such a manner, there is certainly a reason to it.

And indeed, if the manga is not read as a romance story but considered as a coming of age story, the beauty of the ending becomes evident. Someone on reddit explained this in detail (but with lots of spoilers). With this ending, we can see how the characters, thanks to their experiences, have developed and grown compared to the beginning of the manga; and the symbols and subtle implications (hidden meanings) in the ending were particularly wonderful.

The disappointment of the ending is much softened by the epilogue if the manga is read in this way, but it is still present and is nevertheless still very heavy.

So seeing the the manga in a different light, the ending is in fact beautifully written and truly worthy of appreciation, if one can overcome the disappointment.

It was honestly one of the greatest manga I have ever read. But they axed it and ended it in the worst way possible. It was the most disappointing and biggest f u to the readers. I warn you, if you decide to read it. Just read up into the late 60s. Anything past that is total garbage. They could have literally ended it earlier and I would be satisfied with it but they decided to turn a masterpiece into a pile of trash.

The characters were interesting and likable, very easily able to be invested in them. The development of these characters was enjoyable and was very not to be invested in their changes as a reader. However, the main male protagonist during the first few chapters came off as intolerable with the typical teenage angst and the plot progression doesn't pick up until later chapters. However, when the plot does pick up it's a very enjoyable experience and to watch the main characters grow and learn from each other.

However, the ending/final arcs itself unravels all the progress and relationships established by the characters in the previous chapters and it is simply disappointing to read. The reason why this ending was so disappointing wasn't the fact that the development of the characters regressed and relationships were torn, it was due to the overall way the story was portrayed. It was simply presented as a romcom that was light-hearted and while it did delve into some serious themes occasionally it was never to an extent that broke the light-hearted atmosphere. It never step itself up appropriately for the ending. While in comparison, a series such as Made In Abyss established the atmosphere, themes and the driving plot of the story to be serious in a manner where an ending whether it be bad, good or open-ended wouldn't really bother the readers. On the other hand, a series such as this undid all the work/progression/development of the characters in the previous chapters.

All in all, the journey before the end came crashing down was very enjoyable and was refreshing to read. However, the ending was absolutely terrible and ruined the experience. Despite the fact that the mangaka did try to fix it in the epilogue it was unable to be salvaged. If you're looking for a series with a wholesome ending look elsewhere. Otherwise, the story up until chapters 66/67 were very enjoyable.

First things first, the reason why there is no rating is that up until a certain point it's a great manga but then right at the end it comes crashing down so hard it's unsalvageable.

Good character development, interesting and diverse characters, extremely clean and pretty art style, decent comedy.
Now what is the issue? While they are not translated yet, the last few chapters are just the worst way to end a series. Without spoiling anything, basically the whole point of the series, is made void for no reason. Actually there is one but it's so sudden, nonsensical and absurd it doesn't classify as one.
You can safely read until chapter 66/68 and probably have a good time but I can't say it's worth the disappointment if you do choose to continue.

Take this as a warning. If you are looking for a good wholesome read, look elsewhere.

For a series with such a romcom-esque premise, I was expecting something silly and over-the-top. And, to some extent, it is over-the-top, but it's also surprisingly earnest in its delivery.

Notably, rather than a story about a girl trying to hide her true self, it's more a story about youth and balancing how to be both true to yourself as well as kind to others. It's also a story that's unfailingly kind to its flawed characters, even the antagonistic ones.

Hoshino, the main heroine, isn't actually ashamed of how she normally looks--and neither is she putting on airs in her school life. More than anything, her makeup is the armor that gives her confidence in her relationships. Kobayakawa actually learns to be a better person from her, rather than the other way around (which seems to be the usual tract these stories take).

The story also tries to deal with bullying in a meaningful (albeit shounen-ized) way. And while it might be slightly optimistic, it has faith in the fact that as long as you make the effort, you can and will be able to build meaningful relationships with other people. Also, bonus points for understanding that different types of people exist and that not all teenagers are straight. (And for not making said teenager a caricature or the butt of a joke.)

I'm an absolute sucker for stories about youthful earnestness, and Hoshino, Me wo Tsubutte. is definitely one of the better ones I've had the pleasure to read.
