Description

The twin brothers Susumu and Tsutomu have been friends with the girl Sakura since they were kids. But when Tsutomu mysteriously disappears at the age of ten, Susumu and Sakura begin to drift apart. What Sakura doesn’t know: Tsutomu has returned, not as a person, but as the mirror image of Susumu. That is, whenever Susumu looks in a mirror, he sees his brother who talks to him. Thus begins a bizarre love triangle between Sakura, who torments the poor Susumu as much as she is being tormented by her peers, Susumu, who keeps thinking he has to save Sakura because he likes her, and Tsutomu, who despite being stuck in a mirror pulls everyone’s strings. 4f3q5v

It was good, but the ending was confusing...

So was it showing what their life would become or was it all in his head? The fact that he asks if it was a dream and then she just keeps laughing didn't help.

crazy characters doing crazy things, feeling crazy love having crazy sex. but it is all interesting. sure, the first few chapters with the absolutely horrific bullying and the last chapter that don't really make any sense can be disorienting, but the journey is nice. the art is good, they look real cute. all in all, a good read.

SWWEEET is a likely a bit polarizing. The story is very avante garde, and tests what can be considered tasteful. It is also based around a very cliche theme within japanese literature, and is in many respects not a very original story. Theres a very obvious gap in the series between how adult the situations are that the characters are in, and how young and immature the characters responses to them are. I think the juxtaposition actually works quite well.

You can basically break the story up into two distinct parts. On the outside, its psychological, dark, and deals with some themes that are very adult. Some of these perhaps very disturbing to people, such as forced sex, severe bullying, and death, often times drawn out very dramatically. But at its core, the story is a very light, innocent, cute romance between adolescents. It go through sort of slice of life, day to day drama as they grow closer together. And the two parts draw off of each other, and work surprisingly well together.

But because of the gap between these two things, the characters occasionally feel unreal and lifeless. And some of this is likely intentional. The relative lack of skill compared to an author like Asano Inio can be seen. But, I think it is definitely worth the read, if you can stomache the content.

False Memory / Trauma

Excellent! Story primarily deals with a traumatic event and Susumu's false memory that was created to make sense of his memories. It's a little confusing at first, but keep in mind that memory is highly malleable. This is Susumu's story and quest to reconnect with reality.

I'm puzzled by the lack of direction in this manga. I never could grasp what the mangaka was trying to convey. It feels rather empty to read as I could never empathize with any of the characters. The theme shifts go too quickly and while I wanted to like it, I couldn't.

A short piece with many different directions to look at. The story is quite compelling and mysterious enough to keep you thinking as you go along. The story likes to play on psychological twists and keeps it quite refreshing.
Being only 2 volumes long makes sure that the main plot is all that counts so if you're looking for something that touches on psychology, schizophrenia, coming of age, self-realization, and a quirky romance, then enjoy this story by a mangaka content enough to prematurely end his own life.

I don't think I want to read this again.

I can't decide if this manga is being serious or not. Some parts of the manga are so unrealistic, but apparently, they're flashbacks of things that happened in the past. These things make no sense! They couldn't have happened! And then there are other scenes that seem to appear "realistic". I really don't get it.

Generally, I get the feeling that the author is trying to play around with the "love-triangle" cliche. There's the "childhood friends" cliche. Overall, the manga-ka's just trying to warp the whole thing. c10 definitely confirmed this belief.

Sakura's starting to develop feelings for Susumu, despite having feelings for Tsutomu(supposedly, although I find this hard to believe. A lot of time has ed) .

I didn't really enjoy this. It just didn't flow. Things don't always have to make sense, as long as the audience is actually being led somewhere. But I don't get this feeling at all. Maybe the author is plotting something, but that something probably is going to end up as something totally unbelievable and ridiculous. If I wanted something like that, I'd read FLCL.

Thanks, but no thanks. This isn't my cup of tea.

having a complex storyline is one thing, but the issues keep popping up without anything truly changing. all these kids have problems and no one does any real growing. wha...? why read this? to depress yourself? even if the storyline is sad and the struggles unbelievably difficult, there should be some benefit for somebody somewhere along the line. but no. it's a depressing never ending stream of drama, drama and more drama. not my cup of tea.

Well the beginning seriously creeped the hell out of me, but it started getting better towards the end of the first volume. I really just skimmed it, and I can't say I'm interested enough to actually read it or to get the newer chapters. This manga isn't for everyone, very dark and twisted, considering the characters are thirteen years old and doing things they shouldn't... xp If you really have nothing else to read and you like young teen angst, then you might want to take a look.

Lol this isn't something where you have to accept each chapter is basically clues giving and you have to be into the human mind when twisted. This require deep thinking "critical thinking" not to take the surface the several skin beneath because of that i actually got my theory to be exactly what the story is leading. (chp 11)
