Description

You know the manhwa where the art style is comkpletely in sync with the topic at hand, and it makes everything better? Like in Beast must die, or Black Mirror? Well, this one has it all wrong. Sadly, the art style was IMHO, unsuitable for this type of a manhwa. And I generally think they made a big mistake here, in the tone of the manhwa itself, and the overall feel. Truly, this manhwa has some emotionally heavy, heady moments, but in putting emphasis on the "mystery" and the action, this huge potential gets lost so much. The connection between seme and uke was pretty deep and intense, but somehow gets glossed over and only barely scratches the surface.
And the plot... So full of plot holes. ARGH! I was angry at how ridiculous the plot was at some points. The bare bones story is actually pretty interesting and more than attention worthy, but almost everything was done shoddily from this first juncture - from the background story, to how chars behave one to another, to the whole beauro business, to char motivations... I didn't get some stuff and found them absurd.

But what bugs me here is that, as I mentioned, there is so much emotional baggage to unpack here, and this is some powerful stuff. But it never gets the comeuppance it deserves. Lucy and Kile are an couple that is outside the box, and gave me more clout than many other yaoi couples. But this manhwa just wasn't a proper surrounding to do this in a nice, slow, languid but intense way. I would change the art style, the background story, and make everything so much more sensible. But still, it's worth reading and not all that bad! The art, while not in sync with the story, is still pretty nice, and there are some very good ideas and questions raised. So give it a go, regardless.

Main story - the ML of the main couple is toxic AF, there is a serious amount of gaslighting, power dynamics, and everything else you cam imagine. The premise of the story seemed interested so I decided to give it a try however I just couldn’t get into it because I wasn’t expecting the ML to end up doing everything he did to the MC. I dropped it and ended just reading the side stories…that was enough for me.

Don’t be fooled by the Shounen Ai genre categorization.

(The side stories are Yaoi)

I'll give this rating for now just because I'm a sucker for protagonists who receive a new power they didn't know they had and now have to navigate it. I heavily enjoy Kile as a character, and Lucien too. I love the art and the premise. The side characters have been great too.

I like the premise but hmm not sure if it is being executed very well.

Lucien's (Lou) personality is not really consistent for now....? Like...you really hated Kile at first but now you're all lovely dovey with Kile within 9 chapters already because he is the twin brother of Ray...? Because he reminds you of Ray...? But also it's kind of weird since is it being implied that Lucien was in love with Ray.....? And has resentment because Ray went to that other blond instead before he died....? So is he really interested in Kile or just likes him because he is a copy and his mannerisms remind him of Ray.....?
I'm looking forward to the rest of the story though!!

Edit: I have decided to put this on hold.
