Surprised at the criticism!

To me, this was a great story. I like that it didn't try to be grandiose and just kept the plot on a small scale, limited to four characters. The "writing is shallow" criticism feels odd to me, since we actually spend quite a bit of time delving into Akihiko and Kazushige's individual pasts, and Moronatsu gets his own chapter too; there's not much on Masakado, but that works since he's best left as more mysterious.

IMO, things moved along at a good enough pace to avoid certain subplots overstaying their welcome, or characters slipping into predictable patterns. I also appreciated that the mangaka didn't turn Masakado and Moronatsu into typical villains, and kept them morally grey and on the periphery. The conflict was more refreshing than your typical "must have intense, angsty, screaming conflict all the time" yaoi: there are moments of emotional outburst, but the concerns brought up seem logical to me for a story like this.

The art is gorgeous, especially the eyes and hair. Found myself going back to look at some s again.

My only gripe would be

that in the end, Akihiko's transformation into a vampire is rushed by a fairly "convenient" incident, and, despite things working out in the end, is still done explicitly against his will. Whether this is "he actually did want it all along, so it's fine", or an unforgivable transgression, is up to you. It wasn't a problem for me, since it led to the ending I wanted, haha.

Overall, I would recommend this to people looking for a sweet vampire love story that isn't overwhelmed by angst or sweetness.

P.S. this manga has been completely scanlated.

Upon looking at the cool art you might think that the only other review shown might be too negative. You're wrong though, it indeed is just as average, if not worse. "Wah I don't want to turn you into a vampire" "Wah, but I love you".
The inclusion of the other guy who turned the mc and his random teenage sidekick is entirely unnecessary and just brings cheap drama that gets resolved in like a volume (why is this 3 volumes, this could've well been like 3 chapters), none of the characters get explored, heck, we barely know the main ones.
I could not tell you anything of substance about their feelings for one another or anything about their motivations or pasts really, they are so insanely shallow it hurts. The main couple cook together and shit, be amused

I was interested in checking this work out, because I normally like vampire stories in BL, however, it felt like this manga opted for the absolute standard story ever, which cannot be saved by the lovely art either.

Basic plot goes as follows: Gay Vampire is scared to turn human lover into vampire, Evil Other Gay Vampire comes and goes "hoho you will lose him one day", cue the drama, lots of emotions about mortality and loss, you know the drill.

However, this manga achieves nothing new, and unfortunately stumbles along the way as well. There are countless moments where tonal shifts break the tension of a scene, some jokes really feel out of place. The backstory of "how the human and the vampire couple found each other" was just brushed over in the first chapter. It would have been nice to actually see the two get together, or figure out what the mystery power of this strong man is, but no, it starts off immediately with them being in a cooking relationship, where the human comes over every day to cook for the vampire, as if this was the most normal thing ever. It's not engaging at all.

The longer I read this manga, the more I felt that it was the stereotypical story beats that moved the story along, not the characters themselves. Some decisions really feel like they were only added to raise the tension, not because this character wanted to do this. In addition, I was often confused by what the character motivations actually are, especially romantically.

Not to mention the weird dialogue phrasing in sex scenes sometimes, that made consensual sex scenes feel noncon or dubcon, and I only found out in the afterword by the author that this way of writing was ment to depict characters as "inexperienced" or "virgins". That absolutely didn't come across, and I was somewhat uncomfortable and confused during these scenes.

Overall, yes, the art is good, but the story is really lacking. I can only recommend this to hardcore "vampire BL" fans, for anyone else, I think this is something that can be skipped.
