its like gto to a very limited extent witht he students and their issues
I really liked the ending page, but man do I really wish that they showed scenes afterwards.
i really liked this manga, but man, after chapter 100, the author just puts characters through hell with life changing shit thats depressing, which can make some readers happy, but for me just makes me extremely sad. as the previous Chapters showed some form of hope for the criminals, the last couple show that there is no hope

I HATE HOW, AT THE VERY LAST PAGE, SHE GET HER VISION BACK, THEY DO NOT SHOW ANY MOMENTS WHERE MC AND FEMC ARE JUMPING WITH JOY OVER THIS . INSTEAD, THEY JUST SHOW THAT HER EYES ARE CURED AND LITERALLY END IT. WITHOUT ANY CELEBRATION OR ANYTHING.

Shibatora is a series starring a vertically challenged MC. He is a police officer who is in a part of the youth division section. They deal with crime committed by the underage. The series deals with various youth committed crimes and the after effects of those crimes and what not.

The series isn't just 1 whole story. Its several laced together in a sense. Their are a total of 5 arcs i believe. Each dealing with minor's and how they have their own problems. I think the author did a good job in trying the make the children not the bad guys. One of the main themes is that every child becomes a criminal because of their parents, something i disagree on personally, however for some of them i think the author did a decent job for making them seem like its not their fault. I mean i don't think anyone would think it is just his or her fault but it has the intended effect the author is going for.

Due to this its not your fault mindset the main character believes that every child can be changed. Their in lies the problem. Originally the first 2 arcs were solid. I really liked it they had a lot of intense moments the main character was badass and amazing double page spreads really made the series enjoyable to read. However the next 2 arcs were more of a problem. Honestly I hate the fact that main character tries to reform every single delinquent. Part of his technique to do this is believe everything they will say to the point where i was verbally saying come on. Part of this got annoying but the main reason it pissed me off was because it worked. But it didn't feel deserved more like he got lucky and in turn the delinquent reformed as well. This happens on more than one occasion and this part didn't have the intended effect as the author wanted.

Which is why i also kinda liked his supervising officer but her turned out to be a bit of a waste. I also felt like his friend the white haired dude wasn't utilized well enough. Some of the other characters also feel wasted and were used as comedy routines too many times. I liked the heroine though. She was funny and her personality brought a lot of funny and cute moments in the series.

Though dealing with Kids in this series can be a hit or miss, dealing with adults is just amazing to see. The MC has 2 side to him. The kind soft calm side dealing with children, and super sayain mode dealing with adults. This contrast is very satisfying to watch and unfold. Though i do not like how adults are almost always blamed i do like how the main characters deals with it though. One of the situation is the main character playing the cat and mouse game with a very professional law student and its so insane. I won't say its on par with Light vs L but i did very much enjoy the word game they had.

Most of this stuff though actually occurs in the beginning. The dealing with adults and charisma or likability of the main character is why i really enjoyed the first 2 arcs. But beyond that it start losing it. The dealing with Kids is a hit or miss like a mentioned because the 3rd and 4th arc just aren't as good as the beginning. They aren't bad, but you'd expect more after being hyped from the first 2 arcs. Now the last arc however is well written. Author starts taking risks and it pays off. Character's are more interesting. Situations are more dangerous and the stakes are the highest they've ever been. I didn't think the ending was bad either. However the resolution of the last arc got too political, unnecessarily and the ending ending was too nice personally.

Another thing i didn't like was that the main character could see whether or not a person was about to be in mortal danger. It's related to his backstory stuff but honestly the entire thing felt unnecessary. I don't think it was poorly implemented but its not something I thought i want in this manga.

TLDR: Good manga, I was upset at the lack of hype from the first 2 arcs in the 3rd and 4th arc however the last arc was solid and considering it ends in a solid note, I guess i'll let this get away with a 7/10. Also their is a reddit mod moment.

This manga was cruel to me. For the first time manga almost made me cry because of....happiness? Like wtf! I never cry for those reasons. I feel toyed with. I may not have cried, but to be pushed to a teary eyes...... Anyway, it ended the way I expected it to. Shibatora is enjoyable and does explore many moral concerning teens, but most manga are like that. Naruto is nonstop morals and integrity. Shibatora is a little deeper though and not recommended to all.

Believe and you shall achieve
Everyone can change, but not everyone is blessed with equal opportunities to change
Children are cruel
Shibata Taketora is AWESOME and a GREAT person of saint status!

This is absolutely a masterpiece. Well, at least from my point of view. All the talks about morals, and nowadays problems caused and happened to youngsters this days are pretty well covered in this series. The unbelievably kind main character also gives quite a lot plus point to the whole manga itself. Well, this is totally recommended for mystery manga lovers.

Cruel yet Optimistic

The manga touches upon a lot of problems faced by today's youth: drug abuse, bullying, dysfunctional families, gang violence, and school pressure. It starts off lighthearted, and while the main character carries that tone throughout, the topics it touches are all very serious and dark. On one hand, the main character can be thought of as naive and foolish; but those traits are exactly what make him likeable and helps him gain the trust of others. I really enjoyed the entire cast of characters, their back stories and their interwoven connectedness. The author weaves a great plot that involves everyone's skills and strong points.

The realist in me is deeply cynical towards many parts of this manga, where people just change to do "good". As some other comments say, it does get preachy, with many scenes where there are tears streaming down someone or others face. These parts were definitely overdramatized. That being said, I still agree with the core: sometimes people are just thrown into unfortunate circumstances and don't know the way out, they really just need a helping hand to guide them.

Overall, while this manga paints a cruel world, it's extremely optimistic about people's true nature and intentions. Decent art, enjoyable plot and likeable characters. Not much character development for the main character (except that the audience knows more about this past), but that wasn't the focus of the manga in the first place. The focus was the ability for someone to make a difference, and change people's lives. So there was definitely character development for the side characters.

I expected more. I am not complaining. Mangaka ended the series neatly and it didn't turn into another shounen of 500+ chapters. But what bugs me is the fact that it didn't have much variety to it, towards the end. Same plot devices, same ... ah, I won't spoil anything, but it feels like it should have been more, but the idea got axed and shortened in haste. And Tora didn't actually grow as a character much. This makes me a little sad. But the series was nice, although a little bit too surreal, loosely based on real life and a tad bit too dramatic.

Starts off great, but by the end of the series it devolved into a overly dramatic (though violent) morality play, full of "life lessons". I half expected Smokey the Bear to show up and tell me to help stop forest fires.

Jumped the shark.

Now at chapter 129, and an otherwise enjoyable manga has totally jumped the shark. The situations previous to this last story were serious, yes, but not overblown.

This last chunk where that asshole murders 4 people, blinds a 15yr old girl as a 'warning' and sets up a criminal empire in the scope of hundreds or even thousands of people, then gets redeemed after the protagonist takes a bullet for him and exposes that he's 'not the son of a murderer'
. . . Totally lost my attention. It's made worse by the abject failure of real Japanese law enforcement; where the 'hate the crime, not the criminal' bulls#it collides with an even more serious 'money walks' corruption problem that the US has, thus causing the manga to make even more of a mockery of itself for its unrealistic depiction.

Honestly, this went from an enjoyable manga to brown-nose propaganda in about 100 pages. Enjoy the beginning, stop reading at Ch 105. : )

Too much moralizing to be enjoyable

There's nothing wrong with the manga except it's premise which is kind of a problem. Teaching us life lessons like bullying is bad, love each other more and drugs are wrong. Yeah, thanks. I already kind of realise that stuff. I don't need a comically small detective to be outraged at stuff to realise what is right and wrong. I particularly don't need even the most simple of subjects blown out of all proportion. Far too much time spent being "inspirational" and with everyone bursting into tears due to the tragedy of it all.

If you enjoy being told really obvious things then I suppose this is the manga you've always wanted.

art: is pretty good, everything looks well drawn, worked out nice
plot: the twists are ok, not bad at all. The characters are easy to like, their skills and powers well shown, you "believe" the story and then it hits you. The plot is sometimes so constructed that it gets hilarious,i personally hate manga/manwha/stories wre enemies have to be the enemies for the sake of the conflict, when they have no real reason to be suspicious or an enemy at all, if this isnt explained well the story just gets hilarious, this is a DRAMA story very much so, if u like me need convincing characters and even more convincing enemies be not surprised with this one
i would give this series a much, much, much higher rating if it would convince me of the reasons for these suspicions but its just unbelievable at times (see spoiler <.<")
the only thing that kept me going are the characters which i started to like

" for example a lil girl of 12 years old is involved in the murder of a 60+ guy and the protagonist has to convince his superiors heavily that shes the victim of a rape attempt, while all the investigators look skeptically on him and the whole series i am like wat? Wat? WAAAAT ?O.O No Money was taken, the "murder" was already discussed in the news and the police is used to arrest 12 year old serial killers O.o for sure..."
