My favourites from this anthology are Tomio (made me the movie 😀), The Bed, and Blackbird. Whispering Woman was nice as well. (I've read Jemma press' Greek translation so I'm not entirely sure about the story titles)
Has a few really nice 2-pagers and some imagery that's creepy, unusual, unsettling or disgusting.
It has the usual Junji Ito's drawing style. Fans will find things to like in this short-story collection as well. What i personally like about Junji Ito (and many other mangaka) is how well he portrays the change in expression or physique with just a few lines. Truly a master in that sense. Just a few lines here and there and the character looks emanciated and unwell. Some shading and he looks ominous. Some other lines under the eyes and all of a sudden they look mysterious and alluring. I've really noticed that on the last story 'Whispering Woman'. Not so much on the whispering woman herself but on the little girl she was taking care of. Also, on the anatomy chapter, he portrayed the character through all stages of her life, as a kid, a young adult and a old woman. Every single one, especially the kid one, was spot on.
I did enjoy this overall and would recommend it to horror fans. The Tomio story is the one I would recommend everyone should read.
As a criticisim for this collection, and most of Junji Ito's stories, one could argue that the characters are shallow, there's lots of exposition and it relies on the culminating jump-scare/2-page horrific illustration. All of which is fair to be honest. There are stories though that carry a weird aura with them & make your mind travel...
