A nice kind-of slice of life

A series with good art and mostly a good cast of characters. Sara and Bakha have an amazing relationship and they are the best thing in this series. The kids are great too and I love them. But some (looking at you especially Mimi) are just so annoying. There is undertones of a racism allegory and it's dealt with well. There is some romance but no one gets together by the end, so if that'll annoy then don't bother. I like it still but I do kind of wish Sara and Bakha had gotten together, they have good chemistry unlike the guys there.

Great story about the lives 4 strangers

The first thing I noticed when reading this story, is that it's well written. Better than many other manhwas that attempt to do the same thing.

The story is about 4 people's lives that intertwine together due to certain events that happen. Our main characters are Bahka, Minhyeok, Sara, and Sanghyeop. Bahka is a witch, Minkyeok is an actor all his life, Sara aspires to be a nun and Sanghyeop is studying to be a doctor. The story takes place in a world where witches and warlocks exist, but their powers are only a fraction of what they were because of persecution and discrimination. We see how each of these characters is connected with this idea of having the influence of witches and warlocks in this world. How their experiences made them the people they are today and the ideals they have. The story wonderfully is able to write a world where prejudice and discrimination are heavily present and how that is able to affect people's lives. The story is a drama/slice of life so don't expect some huge conflict, because the focus of the story is about the main characters.

The characters are realistic, the way they act and the expressions they show are grounded in reality. We can clearly see that the characters are complex. If something needs to be addressed, then it is. We don't get loose ends that aren't dealt with. Character relationships are fleshed out and you can tell that there is depth to the emotions that they are feeling. A lot of internal conflicts feel like they could happen in reality and that is what draws you in because you are able to resonate with most of the characters. Events are not forced because of convenience, if something happens then it's because it fits with the narrative that's built up and the personality of the character.

Example: when Sanghyeop decides not to tell Sara, he likes her because that would cause problems and because Sara never showed that she liked him romantically.

The art has its own charm, it's not too aesthetically pleasing nor does it overly use highlights or crisp line art. It manages to select its color palate and create this mellow atmosphere that is perfect for this sort of story. Character expressions are carefully drawn and are subtle at times making us realize the amount of detail they put into the art.

With the positives out of the way, let's talk about some negatives. The story doesn't really touch on events that are potentially more dangerous for the witches except for 2 times:

Sol getting kidnapped because of his powers and the acid attack later on. I feel like talking more about these sorts of events would be able to flesh out the world more and relate it to the hate in the real world that's also happening. Instead, it pushes the narrative where these events are barely discussed and swept under the rug. Another thing, the story could have done better is having more episodes instead of rushing the story, later on, it felt like there were so many things going on and the ending came very abrupt like I was expecting more? It felt like the author didn't want to keep writing because they thought character arcs had come to a close when in fact there was barely enough time to finish all the character arcs. A few more episodes would have made the pacing better and provided a more satisfying conclusion. The ending felt like a non-ending if that makes sense. This is why I gave this story a 9/10 instead of a 10/10 because there are noticeable flaws even with all the praise I've given it.

Nice and mellow

The art is not my taste, but I couldn't help but love and appreciate how high quality it is. So much work and effort put into each chapter, the s all drawn and spaced out with care. Even though I didn't like anything else about this webtoon, I rate this highly solely because of the art.

About everything else... First, the storytelling is super slow-paced -- if that's not your thing, then you'll find it very boring.

A lot of the story felt extra and needless. This could've been a perfectly normal slice of life webtoon -- but yet witches are added in for some reason. I think it would've been fine without the supernatural part, because it didn't contribute as much of a factor as I thought it would.

Although it's probably because this webtoon is so "peaceful" and "wholesome", that's why I'm not used to it. Usually a supernatural storyline is associated with action or something, so this being such a HAPPY webtoon throws me off.

I mean, the most dangerous thing that happened in this webtoon was the kidnapping and the acid attack, which are serious matters -- and it was portrayed well -- but the general atmosphere and vibe of the webtoon didn't make me feel like it was a climactic event. The supernatural element didn't feel important enough and it doesn't fit in with what I'm usually accustomed to.

I love how the characters each grew on their own and came to their own happy ending, but I didn't quite understand ANY of the progression that happened.

Bakha decided to stop going to school and help at her parents' pharmacy? Minhyeok "grew up" and learned from his forceful kiss accident with Bakha (and besides, did he somehow get better at acting in the end)?? Why did Sangyeop like Sara at all? Why is it that Sara can't become a nun AND do everything she wants to? Sara's realization also sounded hilariously like a freaking love confession for Bakha LOL, and I can't get over that ridiculousness. I guess I'm immature or this is too wholesome and innocent for me.
Anyway, how these characters all came to their conclusions did not sit well with me. None of it made sense to me. To me, the story didn't stitch well together no matter how I thought about it. I understand it, but I don't like how it is done.

But, this is a WHOLESOME webtoon that I don't have the heart to say bad things about. My criticisms up there make me sound really picky and hypocritical, but those sentiments don't compare with how much I actually appreciate this high quality work.
