Would have loved it if not for the super annoying main characters, said Sei and Ryou. If they weren't such dumb whiny pussies the battle with Sawada would end way faster, it's super lame how it kept dragging on because of them.

Said that, I learnt a lot about survival, farming etc. from this manga. Cool story and Concept.

Goes downhill around chapter 100

I really like the setting and the drama that follows. But around chapter 100 things get really wonky with MC's moral com and flimsy philosophy. Ultimately an unsatisfying read, very much like the author's other work (Destroy & Revolution).

Finished all chapters. I have mixed feelings. The first 30 or so chapters were exciting to read when the mystery of the island was the driving aspect.

But afterwards, the story kept dragging on and on and on. I feel like it was 3x as long as it needs to be. At least it had a decent ending.

Around sixty people who failed at suicide and agreed to an assisted suicide from the hospital, wake up on an Island known as Suicide Island. The islanders divide into two main camps; one camp (Sei's) trying to coexist in harmony while the other under a tyrannical cannibalistic despot (Sawada). The number of people being sent to the island isn't much, considering the amount of attempted suicide is in the hundreds of thousands. Also the ratio of male to female on the island is skewed towards males; one would have expected a more balanced equal ratio. Mind you, the whole storyline is very unrealistic to begin with, but that what's fun about manga.

Initially, Sei's group spend much of their time trying to survive within the Islands ecosystem and making a home for themselves. Sei (MC) became the groups main hunter. It starts well for them but eventually they clash with the other camp. The two camps end up being hostile to each other because of Sawada psychopathic nature and XXX's nature. It's a little more complex than that, but that's the jest of the story.

I agree with those who commented that the survival aspect of the story is what got me hooked, and initially I would have preferred to avoid conflict. But that can only take you so far.

Two things really annoyed me more than anything else besides their procrastination:

Why in gods name after months on the island, they still didn't know all the names of their comrades. They live, work, eat and sleep together, yet after over six months there still people who kept their names hidden. How can a group function without using name, nicknames or even numbers? It was obvious it was going to be used for nonsensical drama.
They have a hospital that is opposite the main camp (a school). Even though, one time their patient and companion got cornered in the hospital, they still use it for patients. The fact that is secluded from the main camp and easy to attack, does not stop them from using it.

The rest is a kind of my view on actions of the survivors. It may contain some semi-spoilers
Destroying the other camp is nothing to do with rape but with survival. If someone is not willing to risk their lives to kill a psychopathic murderer, not sure why anyone would think they would for the lesser crime and threat of rape. If Sawada camp just stuck to his side of the Island, no one would bother attacking them. But they do not and that's why, what they are doing is delaying the inevitable. Had they acted early, all they needed was one arrow in Sawada's head and the battle would have been half won. But the more they procrastinate the more violent the final clash would be. They are doing what got them on this island in the first place, and that is not facing and then challenging their current reality, but instead choosing a way out.

Ryou is the second most insipid guy in the manga. Making excuses for rapist and murderers. He would put everyone at risk for a murderers. In first is that disgusting MC character Sei. You hunt to live, is what he said at first. I am sure those two would kill if they are fighting to death or for someone they really loved. Sei does not think ahead and not only avoids killing but also tries to avoid injuring others. It seems the damage he deals others haunt him. He has no problem though forgetting the fact that his negligence has led to death of few of his comrades and more suffering. The hypocrisy of it all is the fact, when the newcomers did not help in the defence because they were new to this and afraid, they did not give them food from which the new comers helped gather, they also shunned them, knowing that a few more suicides would be the outcome. Not just shrinking their rations, but complete shunning and depriving them of food; at a time when these (failed suicide) attemptees are at their most vulnerable. Just as long they do not pull the trigger directly they lack any sympathy or guilt, for indirect deaths. But for murderers from another camp, they try and make excuses for their behaviour and even think they can rehabilitate them. This can be applied to the majority of Sei's group. That just does not sit well with me at all. Sei is really detestable and to a lesser extent Ryou. It is not because he avoids killing and fighting, it is because he tries stop others with false hope from doing so without providing a real alternative.

Issues with other people's comments
Kai's personality

Kai was suicidal in a world with laws and lived by it. But maybe he was always a psychopath, but stuck to the norms of the society he was in. He certainly lacks empathy. On the island, his personality was set free.

False on both s. Physically they are not. And these particular women (and men) happen to be also weak mentally to begin with. They are suicidal outcasts. If you have doubt, go to a country were America has brought democracy or any society with chaos, see how "equal" it becomes when law and order collapses. A story does not need both genders to be interesting. There are also a number of female characters that get a lot of attention. But most of the attention is on the Sei (MC) then maybe Ryou and then Liv (female).

People are being killed left, right and centre as well as acts of suicide. Yet for each death we get a or two. There's also cannibalism but its hardly shown. There's a reason for that, its not a story about cannibalism or rape. Does rape trump murder and suicide? All of them are non-issues to the story. Also its a false statement, had he paid attention to what the characters were saying or actually just continued to read, without getting to emotional about the fictional daily non-existent "rape" (and not the mass suicide and killing), he would had a different and correct understanding of what actually is going on. What we know about the women in the other camp is they are not worth dying for. If they are going to fight and die it should be to live. And that would go double for people who have found a reason to live after living so long without one.

The fact the people on the other side seems to accept their lifestyle and behave like a cult, why would anyone want to go and risk their lives to rescue them when they do not want to be rescued in the first place. What may have started as a rape is now willing servitude. Not only do the female not resist, they go one about their duties unhampered and unwatched. They are willing to die for Sawada. That was pretty obvious early on from what Nao and others were saying. It's not easy to risk your life for people whom you do not know but its worse, they are willing to kill you. Apart from Tomo and Kai, everyone appears to worship Sawada as a cult leader. Unlike the cowards in Sei's camp, Sawada's people actually had a leader that motivate them to risk their own lives to survive.

It's ironic that in both camps, they accepted a false reality to carry out their action/inaction. And in both camps it is the most prominent individuals (Ryuu, Sei, Sawada) that gave them this false reality.

It interesting. a lot of other comments pointed things put i wont repeat. One thing i dont get is why dont they go on the roof and shoot arrow down at the attackers. I kind of wish the story would focus less om the second team that attack and focus on exploring and discovery.

Highs and lows

Depressing, as expected since its about suicidal people, given the amount of characters and knowing we'll get to go into the why they want to kill themselves for each of them, we have sad stories for a long while. It does get considerably better when it's about survival thou, Sei first journey, his first hunt and kill are just excellent and enthralling. But on the other hand I think the author does a poor job on character design (not art-wise), community molding and inter-community relations, it's more like he wanted to add spice and went out of his way to put weird, unbalanced and inhuman people in the mixture. If it was the setting of a prison island as it's mentioned at one point that would make more sense, but in a group of suicides? rapers, murderers, manipulative psychopath (like Monster main villain. well a baby monster or baby Machiavelli), cannibals... too much, it doesn't add up. The good vs evil setting is also annoying,

In any case, the one that annoys me to no end is Kai's personality, it's already ridiculous that he's a psychopath that enjoys pushing others to suicide, or even killing them, since he's also suicidal the 3 don't mesh together, either you are suicidal, or you enjoy pushing others to have them kill themselves or you enjoy killing, 2 is pushing suicidal doesn't go well with other two but it might be acceptable (depressive people can be aggressive), all 3 is too much and to top it off he goes to the other camp to plot against his "friends"?? wtf? how does that even make sense? if he went to the other camp to kill there that would be somewhat plausible, but the author just keeps adding more twisted personalities onto one single character, he doesn't feel like a person, he's just a freaking puppet of the mangaka.
Wow, I have to change the top crap, it definitely goes to the netorared okama... that's almost epic...

To be honest I pretty much lost interest when it became a community vs community war, just reading to see if something changes but it doesn't seam it's gona happen, will probably never pick this one up.

Also, the premise is pretty dumb, sending people to a deserted island would make sense if they kept sending more and more, as it's presented I'm pretty sure working that island would give way more income to the country than sustaining 60 suicidal people with no expectations... It would have made more sense as a sort of experiment or something like that, but as a project of the country to fight the escalating suicide issue? BS, if it was such an issues they should be able to fill the island in a year, and if they have more island its just even worse.

Lastly, after over 100 chapters I have to say, this is a pretty chauvinistic manga, I usually don't give much thought to it but after a long while I couldn't help to notice and regret the fact that there isn't a single important female character in the whole story, not only that, they rarely appear at all and when they do it's mostly just a few panes or some rape (or attempt) scene. You'd think Liv is important but she's just Sei's shadow with little to no volition, other than her trauma there is no development on her or other female at all. Did I mention the rape?. All I can say to the mangaka is that women are strong, and stories without interesting women are half as good as those with them in it.

I don't know how many stars to give... But i'm certain that i ignore the plot holes in a lot of chapters as much as i can; the fact the mangaka deliverately applied a black and white contrast between the two groups now really annoy me.

One group is the really bad one, the other is the really good one, and believe it or not, i think the bad group is more believable, because the good side always question the violence generated from them, like not to kill the men who were going to abduct, rape and kill... And that for me is stupid. I mean.. what do you expect? Free them so they comeback to junt you down? Make a prison?... Or sugest making them allies like some women did...? That is just ridiculous.
Making such contrast is easy for the mangaka to deliver an easy plot.
And on top of that, i have to read the side notes of the ridiculous translator that decided to justify a character that is a rapist, murderer, and psychopat (Sawada). 😠
And lastly, It should be written "Jisatsutō".

Somewhat of a response to Therlo, cause boy oh boy do they have some lovely things to say about this story.

Perhaps it's just me or does Japan loves to condone rape? Or white washing it like it's no big deal.

Yeah sure, go ahead and claim that an entire country's culture is ok with rape going on, despite it being known as a country with very low crime rates. Here's a comparison of Japan's crime rates to that of the US. Spoilers: US has it far worse than Japan's rape crimes reported. But no, because rape is happening in a series like this, and many other fictional works out there, the entire country's totally alright with one of the worst crimes known to man. Ok.

Nobody in the manga seems to care either. In the story, one of the sick fuckers after seeing the women getting raped, actually gets so excited that he is willing to kill someone to get a ticket to in. What the hell? Then what does the author do? Kill him off like he deserves? Nope, the author rewards the sick fucker by having a "prostitute" service him instead.

But they do care... They just can't really do anything about it necessarily. The leader of the group (the psycho cannibal you did mention) is essentially a tyrant that rules over them, and has created an order out of chaos: That being, the women get to service the men, so long as they do what they're told by the guy in charge. Say what you will that that sort of logic's stupid as fuck, and that it makes no sense for the women to be letting this shit happen, but that's the problem with what you're glossing over entirely when it comes to this series.

After knowing about it, how can the people in the other camp stay idle knowing a group of women are getting violated every night just a few miles down from the road from where they sleep? Not to mention it would of been the perfect time to strike. Killing the rapists while they are naked and defenceless doing the deed would be perfect poetic justice.

To add insult to injury, the supposedly "good" protagonist cares so much for the lives of these rapists that he always lets go every time they attack. Even though these same rapist thugs repeatedly tries to kill his group and tries to enslave and rape their women.

And this is the part I wanted to address that you can't help but keep overlooking: These people are all survivors of failed suicides. That is why they are in this situation to begin with, and is also why they're not some kind of fighting force that'll always stand up and do what they think is right. They were just regular people plopped down in the middle of some deserted island, and with them being given a second chance as to live out new lives once more, many of them go on (like that of our main character) as to try and understand what their potential is in this new life.

As much as they've constantly wanted to stop the other group lead by psycho cannibal man, the main group we follow doesn't wish to cause bloodshed; seriously, these people have constantly held discussions on how to deal with the other group. They're not in a position where they want to put more of their people in harms way. And the main character, again, who's been given a second chance at living out a new life, doesn't want to have his purpose be that of a killer. To him, it's vulgar and depressing as to go on and take away that second chance others had also been given, despite being the most capable of doing so on the entire island.

It's not as if it's hard to stop the thugs either. The protagonist basically dominates everybody on the island in combat with his elite archery. His group outnumber the rapist group twice over, have better equipment, have better training and the other side doesn't even have any proper range weapons. Even if he's so concerned about human life, at least hop over to their camp, put an arrow through that cannibal boss's neck then the situation won't be as bad. But no, he's so "good" that he always shoots the rapists in the arm or lets them go. Ever heard of the expression "Been merciful towards your enemies is to be merciless towards your friends"? Or "All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing"? It describes this situation perfectly.

Already explained this. These guys aren't killers, and trust me, the enemy group finds ways as to combat their lack of numbers. Which further complicates things, yet also makes the series far more interesting. We know that the main character has the edge, but if it were so easy as to just wipe out the enemy group, this story we lack any tension or intrigue toward the situations they land in. Which is why rather than have our heroes engage in the mindless killing of their enemy, they go about discussing how to deal with these affairs. Cause that's what the story's all about: The questioning of morals and principles, in that of a new land where the two need not apply.

The author did a good job in glossing over the rapes, making it seem like it's no big deal, since it seems few people pick up on it. Instead focusing on the mundane survival aspects and making the MC's shallow "circle of life" philosophy seem meaningful (it's not).

Honestly perhaps the most depressing thing, rather than the manga itself, is how few people caught on and seem to just have bought all that shallow crap.

Because that's not the focus of the story. If you want to read some "stories" where that's the focus, I'm sure you can find some decent Hentai out there for that... <_____<

Ok but seriously, people like this series for the struggle these people have to go through: Surviving in a new land, learning skills they've never known before, questioning the morality of certain situations, engaging in arms races, trying to seek out the meaning to their new lives. It's all interesting if you actually try and understand why other people like it, and not get so caught up on one of the conflicts that is indeed an issue for our characters (letting the group of evil dudes do as they please, like the raping of women). It's really not that depressing. For the most part, I've found some of these s thoughts on the series to be really insightful. I feel like you should try giving this series a...

As for my rating, I'm really hating on the art at times. I sometimes am just kinda bewildered at how some people are being drawn, like some people's bodies just being elongated incredibly. The art isn't horrible, but had it been something amazing like perhaps Btooom! (which I'll it, haven't read the latter yet), I'd probably give it something FAR higher.

Absolutely infuriating.

But of course, that doesn't happen. Every time the rapist group attacks, the mc and his group goes easy on their enemy. The rapists leave safe and sound, then come back to attack again. Repeat ad nausium and you got the entire premise of the manga.

I like how even after it escalates to the point the MC's best friend gets kidnapped and ended up getting raped. They are still going easy on the enemy. Incredulously STOPPING the whole rescue operation after enemy boss scolds them and shuts the door in their face. Behaving like a bunch of reprimanded school children. So nobody thought the psycho cannibal might be lying? The whole scene was just beyond stupid.

Later the protag gets this stupid idea that the rape victim friend "doesn't want to come back" EVEN AFTER been told "it's not that the friend doesn't want to but he's TOO ASHAMED TO".
The hypocrite even self-righteously swears "but if he does want to come back, I won't let anyone stop him" THEN NEVER GOES TO CHECK! (How the fck would you know when you didn't even talk to him???) Running away with his girlfriend instead. Basically preferring to leave the friend in the den of thugs to be gang raped. Bravo man bravo.
