Very good initially... but then Hell came.
by Dunkjoe

Rating: 6.0  / 10.0

Read the pre-quel. 8/10
Read the first series. 8/10

Second series:
Part before "Portrait of Hell" arc: 8/10 - Generally great and consistent storyline, similar to many survival series out there

"Portrait of Hell" arc. 3/10 -
Here's the basic loop for this arc:

  1. MC does something stupid
  2. Either it works very well, or it works very badly
  3. If it works very badly, someone comes to rescue or something 'miraculous' happens.
  4. Situation is resolved, MC gets great gains.
  5. Repeat.

See where the problem lies? Either way, you will know that MC will survive to the end, and nobody else might. Having the entire story revolve around one single person, instead of two or a team, and introducing a lot of side characters that die throughout the series makes this series a revolving door series. Of course, except the MC.
Too much plot holes, sudden character personality changes, plot armor and so on.

Chapters 150 to 177: 1/10 -
Horrible storyline. Basically something that should have been 3 chapters at most dragged to 28 chapters. I couldn't bear reading it after the first 5 I think.

Chapters 178 to 186: 0/10 (in fact, I think -2/10)
The ending basically invalidated everything before it. Be it the prequel and first series or this entire series. The characters changed so much or what happened became so ridiculous that it ruined everything. Horrible feeling after reading the ending.

Story was great but not sure if the original story was supposed to end before the "Portrait of Hell" arc, but it literally went to hell from that arc. I've seen many series that became trainwrecks because of extended storylines, and this is arguably one of the worst. It really looks like the writer or editor changed halfway because many characters changed personalities, or the story became so different from before.

If you like this kind of series, there are many much better series out there, one of the best imo is Solo Levelling.

The second half of the manga is much worse than the first, but it is a good read.

There are many things that don't make any sense and could be removed without changing the story,

like the arc of the three kingdoms which is useless, because it is not used to pick the winners and only the protagonists win in the end, so what is the point of this arc, besides showing the superhumans that make no sense to the rest of this manga's world, it is ridiculous. The arc of the island of demons is also not useful and Kami never appears again, they never use their powers to anything other than kill the island's demons except Ushimitsu, which uses he's powers to do plot things that weren't really needed and could be done in better ways.

Ending
by kinuika
Rating: N/A

That ending was a cop-out. The only reason I rated it on the higher side was because the rest of the manga was awesome! I loved every single messed up game and I couldn't get enough of it!

The bittersweet ending seemed extremely forced to the point the author threw out their own rules to make it end like that. I don't understand why so many creators feel they need to come up with some super unexpected twist ending for their work. Mirai Nikki pulled the same BS and I'm so sick and tired of it! Happy endings won't kill your work! Neither will sad endings! Just stick to the rules you already set for the universe and cut the cord already!

At first, I skipped the chapters because it looks boring but I realized how important that parts to see how the recent happenings started. I am so happy that you continued the story. I just watched the first part and now, enjoying the second one. I hope it will be made as movie soon with no cuts. I am looking forward to it actually. To the author and editor, you did a great job. I'm really a big fan of this manga. It is witty, a bit romantic yet a thriller story with a great plot. I'm from the Philippines and my friends starting to like it! T-ya! Hahaha...

Better than Gantz
by Megorova

Rating: 7.0  / 10.0

This manga is not as crude as Gantz, no ecchi, no rapes, no unnecessary nudity. Well, it is shounen, so there is certain level of censorship. Which doesn't affect its quality. In some parts it's even scarier than Gantz, so even though 'Kami-sama no Iutoori' isn't seinen, it's definitely a horror manga, GREAT horror manga.
Great action, well thought out plot, variety of different survival games. Main character Akashi is definitely more likeable, and better portrayed than Gantz MC Kei Kurono.
Manga is in its final stages, nearing ending, and it gets better and better with each chapter. While Gantz last arc was a total failure. Seems that Kaneshiro-sensei has devoted a lot of time to planning his work. The ending is promising to be epic.

P.S. It was obvious that this kind of manga won't end with HEA, but still, how it did ended is a bit disappointing, all for nothing. Read just for the sake of horror entertainment.

Great, but it's too early...

I enjoy this manga, much like the first. However, it's too early to decide which one is better, and as of now, I'm still biased and prefer the first book (along with the protagonist and the other male lead, hehe). This still carries the same intensity, as the first, and has me on the edge of my seat. I'm not gonna judge early, where I normally do after everything is out, but so far it's very... entertaining in the right way.

The female character annoys me, though.

Better than the first
by NeoFish

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0

I'm really surprised no one has commented on this before but I'll gladly be the first.

I do it that the beginning was a complete bore, all the way up until the actual action starts, so it's pretty understandable that the forum posts from over a year ago are not too pleased. However, once the ball starts rolling and the main character is put in his own life or death situations, the authors do what they do best and create a suspenseful and engaging story, similar to the feeling of the first manga. And that's not to say that this manga should be compared to it's predecessor; it's perfectly capable an intriguing enough to stand on it's own.

Though I really disliked Akashi at first, his character has turned out to be so much better than I expected. Along with him, what really stuck out the most to me was Ushimitsu's character development. Canonically gay characters don't always fend very well in shounen mangas, so he may be ill received, but his transformation through out the manga is quite significant and subtle at the same time, and it was especially great when they revealed his backstory, he has really gained a lot of character.

As a longer story than the first, there are more characters in general, and I find them to be very well done, especially the female characters this time around. The authors keep you in a continual state of uncertainty of who will live or die, creating a perpetual suspense and unpredictably that really sets this manga apart from the rest.

The first series was a great story that set the setting but left questions unaswered. I believe this series is meant to expand upon that, reveal truths and secrets about what's really happening and will see the entire story, past shun's death and to the end of this "God" ordeal.
