If you were to ask the author if humanity would drop their differences in the face of an extraterrestrial threat, he would resoundingly say "NO!". I vehemently disagree with this so it was difficult to enjoy reading a plot where humanity's last bastion of resistance are consistently trying to kill each other over grudges even during mid-fights against demons.
Also the MC is extremely hard to like or appreciate. He's idiotically stubborn to a degree where it's hard imagine how he learned sword fighting with any capacity. Basically kiddy tunnel vision levels over 9000. There is character development but slow enough to make your eyes bleed.
The action, pacing, and intrigue are decent enough to keep me reading somehow... although not enough to be able to recommend it to anyone who don't already like these mix of genres.
