I've heard this title pronounced in a number of ways and am curious which is the most common. Mey-jayh is the correct English pronunciation, while mah-gi is the Japanese pronunciation of the katakana. Rest are other pronunciations that I've heard. I prefer mah-jayh personally since it's reminiscent of magician.

EDIT: so since there's some confusion about what this poll is about, I want you to the ar... I mean, to vote for what you usually call this series. You can even vote for carrot under "other" if that's how you say it normally. There are no wrong answers, contrary to what others may say (though there can be troll answers).

EDIT 2: Beating a dead horse now, but please don't leave responses saying mah-gi is the correct pronunciation. Though it is funny how you people are trying to enforce the pronunciation of a word written in katakana, which used for foreign loan words, and then telling people their pronunciation of said foreign word is wrong.

TL;DR If you complain Magi should be mah-gi, maybe Light Yagami should be called Raito Yagami and Edward Elric be Edowado Erurikku as well.

Why? Well, you actually explained it already. One is the English way, the other is how I'd figure most of those who don't pronounce stuff the English way would say it.

I usually say Mah-gi, since it's the Spanish and German spelling too, aside from the original, furthermore, I like to think Magi's as different with Magician, so I like it to sound a bit different.

Why is this even a poll? There is one objectively correct pronunciation, and it's the katakana that's attached in Japanese.

If you were asking about the word as it appears elsewhere in the english language, say that instead of this misleading topic title. There is no different "english" way to pronounce the title of this manga. It is Mah-gi.

Whoa there, calm down. I never asked how to pronounce it "correctly"; I asked how do people like to pronounce it. It was just out of curiosity. Not everyone reads the katakana (or cares about how it's pronounced in Japanese for that matter), so I'm seeing how many people pronounce it the English way or some other way. If this series was localized without any references to the katakana, very few people would call it mah-gi, at least in the English community. It's like how people like to pronounce manga differently (meng-ga or mang-ga). You can politely correct them if you think they're wrong and it's bothering you, but don't be a prick about it.

the anime pronounces it as mah-gi, but I tend to pronounce it as mah-ji. although I'm trying to pronounce as mah-gi since that sounds more middle eastern and (in my opinion) fits better with the setting of the manga

the 'mæ' is pronounced like the "a" in "cAt" or "mAc" or "mAn"
the 'g' sounds like the "g" in "Game" or "Guest" or "Guide"
and finally the 'ɪ' sounds like the "i" in "India" or "Intelligent" or "Intriguing"

Except right now, I am looking for opinions. It may not be correct objectively, but I don't care about that. Actually, I'm now wondering how many people saying mah-gi are influenced by the anime or anime watching people... Because if I saw that word in the wilderness as a hermit or something, I would definitely not call it that.

That a is produced with spread lips, like smiling 😀 like when you say magic /ˈmædʒ.ɪk/ though the rest of the phonemes change.

Quick google search says ae makes an ah sound like fan or magic. I've only seen it on aether or anaesthesia so I it as an ey sound. Then there's encyclopaedia... English is such a silly language. I suggest not over thinking it and go with what's natural.

tecnically æ are not two letters, actually it's not even a letter; it's a phoneme which is a symbol that represents a speech sound.

As anaesthesia is a word, formed by letters, it does have the letters a-e but these are weakly pronounced because the accent goes in the third syllable /ˌæn.əsˈθiː.zi.ə/

but anyway I agree, it's not really important as it's just the way I say Magi, it's the same way in Spanish.

I know those aren't two letters, but I had swype on so I could spell æ. Does that mean æ makes an eh sound? Screw it, I'm gonna not worry about it anymore. There's a reason I'm not an English major and its not just because there's no money in it. 🤢
