Why don't people give nirvana the credit they deserve? Most people say nirvana is famous because Kurt cobain committed suicide and because he did drugs and retarted stuff like that but I think they were really good and his lyrics had sweat and soul poured into them Lol (that sounds corny I know >x<) but still I think nirvana get's dismissed a lot but they made really good music that was at the top of the charts in the 90's I think they deserve more credit it's kinda like that with korn to D: I think nirvana can be considered a legend 83p33

Because they don't have to.

its easy the reason is very simple, people do not find the music they make good but instead of keeping it at 'i just don like this music' they actually find more reasons. The fact an artist does drugs has nothing to do with the fact the music sounds good or not. Though the thing Nirvana has is the stopped at their best (reason is kinda obvious) making this band imo better then the bands that actually continue even though their quality declines , Korn, Mettalica im not saying they became bad its just they keep getting less awesome : (

Lol Yeah I get what your saying.
And that's because they are in their comfortable spot cause they have money and people just eat up whatever they give them because of their old songs so they think they are going to be good like that :3 (Just my opinion)

Those that tend to dismiss Nirvana I find also tend to be "too cool" hipsters. Nirvana is one of the most important bands of all time. Quite literally Nirvana was a revolution in music. Before the album Nevermind and the single Smells Like Teen Spirit the music industry was dominated by overproduced pop like Michael Jackson (don't get me wrong, I was always a fan of Jackson's music) and overly image conscious hair metal bands. Nirvana dominated the music charts for almost three years with albums and singles with a rougher, more natural almost garage band sound. This opened the eyes of the music industry and allowed for bands like Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots and Jane's Addiction to get more attention and wider release thus creating the music revolution that allowed for the Grunge Era and the revival of Punk music is popular culture and a re-focusing of the Heavy Metal scene into a music-first genre. Many people fail to recall that pre-Nirvana most popular Heavy Metal bands were little more than Hair Metal bands or those who used drugs and women to sell an image.

OMG! THANK YOU LOL! I love you. You got my point across better than I did lol 😃
LOL! What is it with misunderstood teenagers and NIrvana. During most of middle school and high school I was crazy into them. I still like them but I found other bands that I enjoy as well.
The reason I will never ever give them credit for anything is because of the music they spawned. Because of the damn grunge movement we have bands like Creed, Incubus and every other Cher sounding suckfest of a band.
Don't get me wrong though I love Nirvana, they are the entire reason I picked up the guitar. Plus they're the MTV Unplugged show was amazing (didn't see it live of course, but I saw it when I was 13 on my parents bootlegged VHS).
I mean listen to that wail he has, Kurt doesn't sing songs. He feels them. Damn it, thinking about Nirvana has made me fall in love with their sound all over again.

Well, I don't know what people said to you, but Nirvana is one of the most famous bands ever and I've never heard anyone say that "they are popular just because Kurt Cobain died". And Nirvana is considered a legend. I don't listen to them very often now, but when I was a teenager I was obsessed with them, and so did most of my friends. So, I don't know who these "most people" you talk about are, but they are wrong.

Nirvana essentially just copied the best bits from a host of bands like Dinosaur Jr, Mudhoney etc. It was nothing new or groundbreaking.

I'm sorry but I really dislike Smells Like Teen Spirit. I love Come As You Are though, the music to it is pretty damn addicting. I've listened to their other songs too, they are okay, nothing special to me though. I can listen to Come As You Are over and over again though.

Nirvana is nowhere near under appreciated. They are always in the discussion when in comes to the most influential bands of all-time. They are already legends. Don't think that what a few kids say makes any difference. I personally am not a huge fan of theirs. I don't think the music they made is so mind blowingly amazing like I hear most people say. But, I can't argue with the consensus. I just get a bit annoyed when someone says they're under appreciated when they are in fact one of the most revered bands of all-time. There are plenty of under appreciated bands. Don't insult them by calling Nirvana under appreciated.

Although smells like teen spirit was not their best song(even if it is implied to be one of the best rock song of all time) it is still a pretty good song. What makes it so catchy to me is the drum beat and the bass riff. I do agree with on come as you are. I never get sick of hearing that song. Pretty funny though how kurt rip off the guitar riff from killing joke.
I think partly it has something to with age, if you give them credit or not. I for my part grew up with nirvana's and metallica's music because my older sis listened to their music. However did it not consciously, because I wasn't simply old enough but thanks to me older sis I could still understand how famous they were at least in . So for my generation or younger ppl its probably harder to rate them correctly.
Another point could be that most non-native English speakers don't five much thought what some lyrics could have meant.
My last point is that the general music taste has changed. If I take a look at mtv, viva or whatever the music channels are called the pop music is definitely "faster and lighter" and more club/party oriented than 15 - 20 years ago. Fact is if ppl simply don't like or understand a bands music why should they appreciate it?
