I was already using baka-updates (which was way more "alive" at the time than it is now), I started shifting from watching anime to reading manga in 2006 mostly because of the truly ridiculous sequential number of Naruto filler episodes, and that's when I found this website. I didn't make my until 5 years later because I didn't see an as necessary (I never went on the forums and if the "reading list" features already existed, I didn't know about them). I'm pretty sure I was linked here directly from baka-updates--mangahelpers didn't even exist yet in 2006 so it wasn't from there. But yeah, I picked "to find where to read or manga" because the feature I most used was the direct link to scanlator's websites (since this was long before mangaupdates even implemented its short-lived internal manga reader).

Like many others, I can't my first visit to MangaUpdates. But I know that when I was using it in the beginning, I used it mainly to find new manga to read.

I'm pretty sure I stated using this site "To find a new series to read." But once here I started using the forums, and was very active for a while.

Ah. Right. I completely forgot onemanga, it's been so long! But yes, once that site died, it's been Mangaupdates for me.

I actually ed here only after I found out about NU which is strictly for asian novels. I was looking a place to have a list of the manga I've read/am reading and that was MU. I probably visited MU before that, but I really can't . If I did, it would have been to read the synopsis of a manga I wanted to read (but I feel like I would have done that in Batoto.)

I was that guy who had his own list of anime and manga I was watching/reading in an evernote note until I found out about MAL, NU and MU xD I still have those notes cause of nostalgia and it was the only way I could actually what I had watched/read during the times I didn't use MU and the rest.

Which was a phase when I was reading a lot of manga and most was found on IRC. So I likely ed to keep track of what I was reading and which IRC channels to go to when Lurk didn't have it. Or was that channel later?

#lurk did indeed exist in 2006 (started in 2004), but I never actually used it for some reason. I getting some manga from IRC, but only about a quarter? #null was the only group for which I literally never finding releases anywhere but IRC. Usually groups had direct links to .rars of the chapters, even back then.

I only discovered MU in 2006 but I had at least started to read manga online in 2004.... I AQS scanlations of Negima from as early as 2005, and I think it was in 2004 that I first discovered two Yahoo Groups... one for Naruto and one for One Piece. Clearly sister groups, as far as I know they contained the most up-to-date scanlations at the time, and I people from those groups founding the Arlong Park forums and maybe even mangahelpers? Wow how times have changed.

This is 100% me. I had a notebook where I'd keep erasing in pencil the chapter I was on for each series as new chapters came out and a spreadsheet for the anime I was watching. Finding websites to do this made my life a lot simpler.

Onemanga died and I needed a way/base to keep track of what I was reading.

Negima was my first series as a scanlator, back in 2005 with AQS. The original reason I ed MangaUpdates was to add our releases here.

Yes, I that it was your name on most (if not all?) of the release posts 🙂 Sorry the group didn't live to the end of that series! I never watched the group's subtitled anime tbh, I only read your negima releases XD
