I a character who had been royalty possibly bookish and they became someone who cared enough and was kind enough to turn a band of thieves into a group of revolutionaries. Hopefully. I think the last chapter I read was the turning point...

Wrt the gender... I don’t which gender they were at the beginning but they cross dressed a lot? Canonically attractive as both genders. Didn’t seem to care much themselves
